USFK Apologizes for Accident Deaths (2002.07.01)
By www.chosun.com

The USFK's 2nd Infantry Division said Monday that it would offer a sincere apology to the family members of two female middle school students who were killed in an accident when they were hit by an armored vehicle.

Choi Sun-sik, the 2nd deputy governor of Gyeonggi Province requested the apology be made to the remaining family members and residents, before any further action was taken. US army officials said the division commander had already apologized at a memorial service and even sent a letter of apology to the families, but if that was not enough for the sentiments of the people, they will look for a suitable method.

They said an investigation into the accident will be quickly finished and the families and related persons would be given the results. Civic groups held an informal rally near the 2ID base at Camp Red Cloud, ignoring the temporary holiday and demanding an apology and the exact truth on the incident.
